Outdoor Experiences

Year 2 @ CSU, Campus Recreation Outdoor Programs and the CSU Mountain Campus have partnered to create outdoor experiences for second-year students!  These programs provide second-year students the opportunity to connect with other second year students and experience the northern Colorado outdoors.

Outdoor program trips have a cost associated with them. If you are interested in participating in one of these programs and have concerns about the cost of the trip, please email year2@colostate.edu to discuss options!

Fall 2022 Events

14er Service Trip | Fri. September 9 – Sun. September 11

We will be volunteering with the Colorado 14ers Initiative to help restore one of the most heavily used trails in Colorado. Grays and Torreys Peaks are two of the closest and easiest 14ers to Denver, and with that convenience often comes degradation. Sponsored by the Outdoor Program, this Year 2 @ CSU Outdoor Experience is designed to provide us with an opportunity to give back, while enjoying one of the beautiful regions in the state. We will depart CSU Friday afternoon at 4:00pm and arrive at base camp where we will be car camping for the next two nights. Saturday will be a full day of trail work at elevations ranging from 11,000 – 14,000ft. On Sunday, we will attempt to summit the two 14ers (if the weather cooperates). While you do not need prior trail work or hiking experience to participate in this program, it is highly recommended that you are in moderate to good physical shape. We will be doing manual labor at high elevation so please consult a doctor if you have potential medical concerns.

Y2 Mountain Experience | Sat. October 8 – Sun. October 9

Experience the outdoors at Colorado State University’s Mountain Campus! On this trip second-year students will have the opportunity to explore the beautiful Rocky Mountains with a full day hiking, ropes courses, and community building. This trip is a great chance to both experience CSU’s Mountain Campus and meet other second-year students.  Students will stay in cabins for the weekend so no tents required. The Mountain Campus is located 50 miles west of campus at the edge of Rocky Mountain National Park and the Comanche Peak Wilderness. Most students never make it up to the Mountain Campus during their years at CSU. This trip offers a great value for an amazing trip.
